The Cahir Meet & Train Group hosted the 2016 Operation Transformation 5km on Saturday morning as part of the National events. The weather was bad but it didn't deter the huge crowd from turning up to challenge themselves around the streets of Cahir.
This year was no exception and we had a group of couch to 5km preparing since early January. We are delighted to say that they all made it home safely and there was jubilant scenes at the finish line. This was the first time for many to run a 5km and hopefully will go onto do many more before the year is over.
Cllr Andy Moloney was on hand to accept a token of gratitude from the members and was chuffed and a little embarrassed when caught on the hop. In his acceptance speech he said that this Operation Transformation is much more than running and loosing weight but it's good to clear the head and very important to be fit in mind as much as in body. He thanked his own Tidy Towns Gang, Cahir men's shed, Tipperary sports partnership, Civil defence, Tipp CoCo,Cahir women's shed, Gardai, Niall O Sullivan, Duneske, all those who made buns and sandwiches and especially the committee and participants. He thanks the sponsors of the group and said that the new strip unveiled on the day will look well through the year at many more races.
There was a great buzz about the place and we will continue to meet as normal at 7.30 sharp on Tuesday's and Thursday's for foreseeable future. There are some kids t shirts available, but not many, if anyone wants them. Cost €5.
